An active participant
Devon Rex cats are often curious, playful and strongly interested in people. Their desire to climb and investigate needs safe outlets. Warm laps are appealing, but the cat should also have secure heated or insulated resting options that cannot cause burns.
Enrichment and food
Use vertical routes, interactive play, clicker training and puzzle feeding. Some individuals are highly food motivated, so secure human food and measure daily intake. Social interest does not eliminate the need for gradual introductions.
Unusual coat and skin
The fine coat can be damaged by vigorous brushing. Handle gently and follow individual veterinary guidance for bathing, skin and ear care; excessive cleaning can also irritate. Sun exposure and cold require management.
Health and allergies
Ask about heart screening, kneecap health, family history and breed-relevant neuromuscular testing. Devon Rex cats are not reliably hypoallergenic. People with allergies should spend time with the individual cat and seek medical advice before committing.
